MVRDV is looking for a Project & Financial Controller to join our Finance & Operations team in Rotterdam.

You are the financial right hand to our Head of Finance, and the day-to-day sparring partner for Project Managers. You help Project Managers understand and manage the financial performance of their projects, from start-up to closing. You also help Finance keep month-end reporting, forecasting and financial processes reliable. in short, you keep our projects financially healthy and our numbers predictable.

Responsibilities:

Project control

  • Partner with Project Managers to build and review project budgets, fee calculations and forecasts

  • Monitor financial project performance: revenue, costs, margin, WIP and cash flow; flagging risks and opportunities early.

  • Run variance and scenario analyses, and translate the numbers into practical advice on profitability, invoicing and cash

  • Support Project Managers through project start-up, monthly reviews and project closing

  • Safeguard correct project set-up, coding structures and cost allocation

  • Review timesheet registrations and project allocations for accuracy and consistency

  • Signal inefficiencies in project execution and contribute to margin improvement

Financial control

  • Support the monthly, quarterly and annual closing process with accruals, reconciliations and analyses

  • Contribute to company-wide budgeting and forecasting

  • Help prepare management reports and KPI dashboards

  • Support audit preparation and compliance activities

  • Help improve financial processes, reporting quality and automation initiatives

Business partnering

  • Connect project-level results to overall financial performance

  • Align project budgets with staffing and capacity planning

  • Translate financial data into clear, actionable recommendations for non-financial colleagues

  • Support management with financial analyses and business cases

Job requirements

Who we are looking for:

  • A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Economics

  • Around 5 to 7 years of experience across project control, financial control or business control

  • Experience in a project-based, ideally international organisation is a strong plus, think architecture, engineering or consultancy

  • A solid understanding of financial reporting and project accounting

  • Advanced Excel skills, and experience with ERP and BI or reporting tools

  • Fluent English, a good command of Dutch is preferred

  • Analytical and structured, with strong attention to detail

  • Comfortable challenging numbers and assumptions

  • Able to make financial information understandable for non-financial colleagues

  • Proactive, hands-on and improvement-driven
